As part of our Vision of “Seeking God, Sharing our Gifts and Serving the World”, a Prayer Event was held at St Matthew’s at the end of May 2010. This event was designed to help people to think about, and deepen, their prayer life. The event was an opportunity for people to come together, in worship and fellowship, to share a simple meal and their experiences of prayer, as well as to ask questions and explore issues. After some lively worship, David led us through a presentation on prayer, focussing on the words of the Lord’s Prayer (click here to view the presentation). A question and answer session followed, with everyone participating and sharing their thoughts. After a break for refreshments, we each chose a “workshop” to attend, which guided us through different ways we could refresh and deepen our prayer life. We could choose from: · A letter to God · Prayer through Liturgy · Contemplative Prayer · Praying the Bible Click here for a summary of each workshop. There was also a bookstall, with a wide range of helpful books on prayer (click here for ideas of books and websites to help you explore prayer and prayer life). The feedback received was very positive, with requests for other events in the future. Watch out for “teaching” events – or let us know what you would like to know more about! |
