The sentences in blue are supplementary questions which can be used if & as necessary. The statements in red are possible answers that you may wish to draw out in your discussion. Other pointers are in purple.

1i. Someone says, I don’t go to church but I’m going to heaven. How do you respond? / What do you say?
1ii. Someone says, I go to church & I’m going to heaven. Are they?
Why are these questions difficult to answer?

2i. What does Jesus say needs to happen for people to see / enter God’s kingdom? 3 & 5
5 ‘…water and the Spirit’ probably refers to John’s baptism of repentance in water and Jesus’ baptism in the Holy Spirit - see John 1:26 & 33
2ii. What does it mean to be born again?
Some bibles translate Jesus words as ‘born from above’. In what ways might that make it clearer?

3i. What do people need to do in order to be born again / from above / of water & the spirit?
In verse 15, Jesus says ‘everyone who believes may have eternal life in him’.
3ii. What does he mean by ‘believe’?
3iii. Just as we see / hear the effects of the wind, what effects should we expect to see of the Spirit working in our lives? Do we?
