(5 mins)
A Christian charity concerned with family life is putting together a new parenting course. They have asked us(church home groups) to come up with our top 5 pointers for being a good parent…
1i. What would we say?
Allow for more than 5, but try to decide which you think are the most important..
What should a parent do… what should a parent be for their children?
What should our children be able to expect from us?
Read 1 John 3:1
(5 mins)
2i. In what ways could these pointers be said to apply to God in his relationship with us? (if no response, take pointer 1 & ask if it applies to God in relationship to us etc.)
2ii. In what other ways is God a good parent?
(5 mins)
In the same parenting guide, the Christian organisation wants us to put together our top 5 pointers for being a good son or daughter.
3. What should a parent be able to expect of their children?
Read 1 John 3:2&3
(5 mins)
v2b suggests that there will be a time when we become like our Father.
4. In what ways does our top 5 pointers help us to understand how we should live as children of our heavenly father?
Is anything missing?
Are we doing it!?
(In your discussion see if you can think of some examples
of how our ideas can be applied)
