this sentence is not to be read out it is for the leader only. in our discussion we will consider how what we believe about who Jesus is, is related to how God might use us. The sentences in blue are supplementary questions which can be used if & as necessary. The statements in red are possible answers that you may wish to draw out in your discussion. Other pointers are in purple.
(8 mins) Have an A4 sheet ready to write down the answers to the following two questions…
1i. In a sentence, if Jesus were to ask you Who do people say I am? How would you respond?
1ii. In a sentence, if Jesus were to ask you Who do you say I am? How would you respond?
1ii. How do these two answers differ? Does it matter what we believe about who Jesus is? Why?
Read Matthew 16:13-19
(7 mins) 2i. What do we know about the people mentioned in v14? special; holy; prophets / God’s mouthpiece; inspired, commissioned & sent out by God; What does that say about who the people thought Jesus was?
2ii. What does Peter’s answer16 say about who he believed Jesus to be? Unique; (Messiah(Hebrew) / Christ(Greek) mean - anointed one)

2iii. Why? What is the connection between true belief & usefulness in service?
